Check the job before you move regional

Moving for regional work can be the right decision. Moving without checking the basics is where backpackers lose time, money and confidence.

Start with the postcode

Before you think about accommodation, hours or pay, ask for the exact postcode where the work will happen. A job can be in a regional-sounding area but still not match the postcode or work rules you need.

Ask what the actual tasks are

Do not accept vague answers like “farm work” or “helping around”. Ask what you will do day to day: picking, packing, pruning, livestock, construction support, hospitality or another specific task.

Confirm your proof before day one

You should know how you will be paid and what records you will receive. Payslips, bank transfers, rosters, contracts and employer details are not small details. They are the paper trail that protects your plan.

Check the living situation

Ask where you will sleep, how much it costs, whether transport is provided and how far the accommodation is from the workplace. A decent job can become difficult fast if transport or rent is unclear.

Quick checklist

Before moving, confirm postcode, work type, pay method, payslips, expected hours, accommodation, transport and start date. If two or more answers are vague, slow down and verify.
