Payslip checks that protect your WHV plan
What backpackers should check on every payslip before relying on work for 88 or 179 days.
Check employer name, dates, hours, rate and payments while the job is still fresh.
Check the employer name
The business name on your payslip should match the employer or worksite you are relying on. If the name looks different, ask why and save the explanation in writing.
Match dates with your roster
Compare the pay period with the days you actually worked. Small gaps are easier to fix early than weeks later when you are trying to prove your timeline.
Check hours and rate
Make sure the hours, classification, hourly rate or piecework arrangement match what you agreed. If something looks wrong, ask politely before it becomes normal.
Save a copy outside your work app
Download each payslip and keep it in your own folder. If you lose access to a staff portal after leaving, your proof should still be safe.
Connect it to the postcode
A payslip alone may not show the worksite postcode. Keep messages, rosters or written confirmation that connect the payment to the exact place you worked.
Every payday, save your payslip, bank payment, roster and one short note about where you worked that week.
