Your first week in Australia checklist
Your first week sets up the rest of your Working Holiday. The goal is simple: become employable, reachable and organised as quickly as possible.
1. Apply for a TFN
A Tax File Number helps you work and pay tax correctly in Australia. Apply through the Australian Taxation Office, not through random paid websites that make the process look more complicated than it is.
2. Open an Australian bank account
Most employers pay wages into an Australian bank account. Keep bank records because they can also support your work evidence later.
3. Get a local SIM
Employers often call quickly. A local number makes you easier to contact and helps with bank verification, job applications and accommodation.
4. Create a proof folder
Make a folder in cloud storage before your first job. Save payslips, contract, rosters, bank deposits, employer details and screenshots of job ads.
5. Decide your 88-day strategy early
You do not need to start specified work immediately, but waiting too long can make the visa stressful. Check areas, seasons and work types before you run out of time.
TFN, bank, SIM, proof folder, postcode research. That small setup makes every later job decision easier.
