Check transport before accepting a regional job
A simple transport checklist before moving to a remote or regional work area.
Check distance, lifts, fuel costs and backup transport before you move.
Ask for the real worksite
The town in the job ad may not be the worksite. Ask for the exact postcode and approximate distance from accommodation.
Check daily transport
Ask whether workers drive themselves, share lifts, use a bus or walk. A cheap room is not cheap if you cannot get to work.
Confirm start times
Early farm or construction starts can make public transport useless. Check the first shift time before booking accommodation.
Understand shared lifts
If you rely on another worker, ask how fuel costs are split and what happens if they leave the job.
Keep a backup
Save taxi, rideshare, local bus or coworker options where available. In small towns, transport problems can become job problems fast.
Before saying yes, ask: exact worksite, distance from accommodation, start time, transport method and weekly transport cost.
