Check regional accommodation before you pay

Accommodation can decide whether a regional job is workable. Before you send a bond, book a bus or accept a bed, check the details like you would check the job.

Get the full address first

Ask for the street address, suburb and postcode before paying anything. Check the distance to the worksite, supermarket, pharmacy, bus stop and train station. A cheap bed can become expensive if you need paid rides every day.

Separate rent from job promises

If the same person is offering the job and the room, ask for written details for both. You want to know what happens if shifts drop, the job ends, or you decide to leave. Avoid arrangements where accommodation pressure makes it hard to say no to unsafe work.

Confirm every cost in writing

Ask for weekly rent, bond, key deposit, cleaning fees, transport charges, linen costs, Wi-Fi, power and any deductions from pay. If the answer is vague, wait. Your money plan needs the real weekly number, not the best-case version.

Ask what the room actually looks like

Request current photos or a quick video of the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, laundry and shared areas. Ask how many people sleep in the room, how many people share the bathroom and whether there is secure storage for passports and documents.

Check transport before the first shift

In regional areas, work can be far from town. Ask who drives, how much it costs, what time pickup happens and what the backup plan is if the driver is sick or shifts change. Missing transport can mean losing work days you were counting on.

Be careful with rushed payments

A real bed can be popular, but pressure to pay immediately is still a warning sign. Before sending money, check names, business details, reviews where possible and whether the payment method gives you any record or protection.
