When accommodation is tied to your job

What to check when regional accommodation is connected to an employer, contractor or hostel.

Accommodation Work and housing together need extra clarity.

Understand rent, transport, deductions and what happens if the job ends.

Ask who controls the room

Clarify whether accommodation is managed by the employer, hostel, contractor or a separate landlord. Save the name and contact details.

Get costs in writing

Ask for weekly rent, bond, deposit, utilities, transport and any deductions. Do not rely on a voice message only.

Ask what happens if shifts stop

If the job is delayed or cancelled, can you stay? Do you still pay rent? How much notice do you get?

Check transport from the room

Cheap accommodation can become expensive if it is far from the worksite or depends on paid lifts.

Keep payment proof

Use bank transfer where possible and save receipts. Accommodation disputes are harder when everything is cash and informal.

Before paying

Ask for total weekly cost, bond rules, room address, worksite postcode, transport cost and refund terms.
